Achill Tourism will host its August Walks Festival from August 28 to 30.

New ferry service

Turasóireacht Acla and O'Malley Ferries (Clare Island) Limited have announced a new summer service connecting Achill Island with Clare Island via a twice weekly ferry service.

New retail development planned for busy Keel in Achill

Achill Island is set to get a new pub and shop in the tourist hot spot of Keel if a new planning application by a local developer is given the green light. Paul McNamara, who was recently approved by An Bord Pleanala for a major commercial and residential complex at Achill Sound, has now launched an interesting project to demolish the old Amethyst Hotel at Keel and bring the once-popular venue back to life as a major new pub.

Scoil Acla 2008

Scoil Acla classes commence on July 28 in creative writing, and traditional music song and dance. The official opening by poet John F Deane takes place on Monday evening July 28 in Gielty's, Dooagh with registration for all classes and activities taking place that morning at 9am.

Half marathon in Achill

The fourth Achill Half Marathon will take place on Saturday July 4. This year, proceeds from the race will be donated to Irish charities and Achill community-based organisations.
